Quick Links:

George Butler is a reportage illustrator who travels around the world to create his work. He usually works with pen, ink and watercolour. I really like his animal illustrations.

Illustrations I like:
This is my favourite illustration of George's. I like how abstract the lines and colour are
and how the drawing is not completely perfect.
I really like the colours used in this illustration. I think that because some of the colours
aren't realistic it makes the image look unusual but effective at the same time.
I really like the shapes that have been used in this illustration. I think they fir in well with the
image and make it look abstract which I like.

Sketchbook Two

Sketchbook Two Photo Album

These are a select few of some of the sketches from my second finished sketchbook. I picked these images because I liked some of the techniques I used and some I thought turned out to be quite good drawings.
These drawings are not the best as drawing figures/people is not my strong point but I think I did quite well.

Graphite Powder

I decided that I was going to attempt to use Graphite Powder to draw a portrait.
This is just a random portrait that just came from my mind so it is no person in particular.
I don't think it is the best drawing but for my first go I think it is quite good. I used paintbrushes

to create this and I found it quite easy to work with.

Sketchbook One

Sketchbook One Photo Album

These are a select few of some of the sketches from my first finished sketchbook. I picked these images because I liked some of the techniques I used and some I thought turned out to be quite good drawings.
Most of these are not the best of sketches but I do think I am improving a lot because I am learning from my mistakes and trying new things. The focus of these drawings are just things I saw at random/in everyday routines.

Miranda is an illustrator who uses materials and techniques such as collage, painting and ink to create aesthetically pleasing children's books.

Illustrations I like:
I really like these types of drawings because I think they look really
effective when done in pen/ink. I also really like to work in this style
because I find it fun to do and it is such an effective and simple
way to sketch.

I'm not usually very keen on most types of collage but I really like this.
I think that the different types of pattern and shape are really effective
because it adds texture and colour to the image which makes it more
interesting for children to look at.
I am really inspired by these kinds of prints and have always wanted to design
on myself. I really like this on in particular because the drawings and colour are
so simple yet very quirky and quite real. I really like the use of colour and the
technique she has used because there is no complicated detail.
I chose this image to add because I just found it really funny.
I like the style that she draws in because she makes a simple line drawing
look ridiculously good which I think is really hard to do. I think drawings like this
can either be badly drawn and look bad or badly drawn and look really good.
(If that made any sense.)

Really enjoyed this day and thought the museums were really interesting. I took some photographs of things I thought were cool and also got some good drawings and inspiration from this trip.

Lucinda Rogers is an illustrator who documents her surroundings and draws from life. She mostly draws what she sees on trips to other cities and locations and she usually works in ink and pen.

Illustration I like:
I like Lucinda's work a lot, I really like the simplicity of
her sketches. She uses a very simple technique of drawing
basic lines but she makes it work very well.
Even though her work is not perfectly proportioned I still
think her portraits are amazing and I also really like how in
a sketchbook she doesn't use much else but pencil.
I think that it is very impressive how she can make a
drawing this simple look good. I would never have thought
that anyone would this this was 'good art' but it is.
I really like how this one continues onto two pages. I really
like the way she works and the techniques she uses so I will
definitely be taking some inspiration from her.

Rob Conway

Quick Links

Rob is an illustrator/artist based in Birmingham and he specialises in reportage illustration, drawing from life, mixed media, painting and photography. I really like his style of illustration because it is very sketchy and his use of colour makes his drawings stronger.

Illustrations I like:
I really like the lines used in this sketch.
I think they are very effective yet very subtle.
To me it looks like a continuous line drawing and, if done
right, they look really good.
I think this image is really interesting.
I like the use of photography mixed in with the drawing,
I think they go together very well.
I think this portrait is very good, I really like
the use of messy and simple lines. I also
really like to work in the way myself because
I find that it is a very effective way of sketching
because you can keep going over and over until
you get it right.
This has to be one of my favourite illustrations.
I really like how crazy this sketch looks. I think the choice
of colours are perfect and the sketch itself is really abstract
and messy but it works very well.
